Training Agenda Benelux July-Dec 2011
BGP-4 has become the routing protocol of choice if large volumes of routing information have to be dealt with. It is used by Internet service providers both between Autonomous Systems (AS) and within the ASs. Moreover, BGP-4 plays an important role in connecting large-scale customers with multi-homing. The participants will acquire know-how on BGP-4, which can be directly used for the configuration and optimization of their proper enterprise networks. In this context, they will gain the competence to set up a structured network configuration on their own and in view of future requirements. As a result, work-intensive redesigning of the network can be avoided later on.

Course Contents
• The Development History of the EGPs
• Setup, Working Mode, and Functions of BGP-4
• Routing Strategies in the Internet (Providing, Peering)
• Definition of Routing Policies
• Route Server and Internet Exchange Points
• Attributes
• Communities
• Multi-Homing
• Comparison with Interior Gateway Protocols, such as OSPF
• Modern Features and Development in BGP-4
• Hands-On Exercises at the Test Network
Detailed Table of Contents

In this course of the ExperTeach Networking series, each student will receive the comprehensive ExperTeach course documentation.

Target Group
The course addresses designers and operators of large-scale, private IP networks, as well as employees of Internet service providers, who are responsible for the optimization of the routing between autonomous systems. They will receive many hints and approaches to solutions to establish BGP concepts and to implement them.

Knowledge Prerequisites
A profound knowledge of the protocol details of the TCP/IP world, as well as a solid understanding of IP routing are necessary requirements for a successful attending of the course. Participation in the course TCP/IP is strongly recommended.
